Try-out of a new play by
This 45-minute play in which seven characters talk about their politics, their views and their lives to an unseen questioner was Benet's debut as a playwright.
Having been selected by the Lost Theatre for their One Act Festival as one of the 20 competitors of over 70 applications, Benet was able to assemble a superb cast for this short project, including three actors who he had worked with before, and three others who he had met while auditioning for other projects.
The end result was very well received and the production was reprised the following month to allow more people to see it. A television producer asked Benet to adapt the play as a short film but then later abandoned it; the screenplay remains.
Three years later, it was revived for Lost Theatre and won their Best New Writing Award.
Benet has since developed the play into a three-act full length play, in which the one-act version comprises the first act, and we go on to see the continuation of the characters' stories. He hopes the full play will one day be seen.
